A Quick Trick to Uncover Thoughts
We often say "I feel like..." when we truly mean "I think".
I feel like you're hurting my feelings on purpose.
I feel like it's always my responsibility.
I feel like we can talk about this more kindly.
I think you're hurting my feelings on purpose.
I think it's always my responsibility.
I think we can talk about this more kindly.
See the difference?
"I feel like..." lessens the impact. It removes your ownership over your thought. It detaches you from your thoughts.
It's such a teensy tiny difference in language, but MAN does it make a difference in our daily experience.
💛This is something I'm learning in my coach training program. As a coach, we learn to identify our client's painful thoughts that are causing difficult feelings. SO it's important for us to know when something's a thought, and when something's a feeling. We're learning to "spot the thoughts". So next time you hear yourself say "I feel like...", you're actually sharing a thought. And if you're prefacing it with "I feel like..." it may be a painful thought you're trying to detach from unconsciously.
Whoa, right? Mind blown. Thought I'd share it with y'all cause this has quickly helped me pinpoint a ton of my own painful thoughts in the last week.
